Raquel Castro (Portugal)

Raquel Castro (1976), is a portuguese director, researcher and curator. She started to think about sound in 2003, during a documentary project where she realized that all places have a sonic identity. Her doctoral thesis on “Sound, Space and Acoustic Identity ” was only the starting point for audiovisual documentaries and art events that seek to bring sound to the public space, such as the international symposium Invisible Places and Lisboa Soa festival, of which she is artistic director. In her work, she is concerned with deconstructing the most hermetic language of sound crossing different fields of study. She is currently directing a new documentary about soundscapes that will be divided into 5 chapters. It is this project that brings her to Valparaiso.
