Monica Bate (Chile)

Nace en Santiago de Chile en 1978. Estudió Licenciatura en Artes Visuales en la Universidad de Chile; posteriormente comenzó a desempeñar su labor como docente en esta y otras instituciones.
Se ha especializado en el área de Nuevos Medios y Sonido en el contexto de las artes visuales estudiando en el Postítulo de Arte y Nuevos Medios de la Universidad de Chile, en Harvestworks Media Arts Center y en el programa de Master Interactive Telecommunications Program – ITP, en la Universidad de Nueva York.

Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en Chile y en el extranjero destacando proyectos como Acoustic Views, Tape Drawings, la serie IS3, el proyecto colectivo Strings y The Life of Crystals: 32ºS 71ºW entre otros.

Desde 2011 forma parte del equipo Anilla Cultural del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Universidad de Chile y en 2014 es invitada a formar parte del directorio de Fundación Flores, espacio interdisciplinar que busca ser una instancia para el cruce de las áreas científica y artística.

Mónica Bate is an artist based in Santiago de Chile. Through her latest work, she’s been exploring how technology, science and art can dialogue in terms of procedures, operations and symbolic constructions through visuality, sound and objects.

Her work has been exhibited in different venues such as Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Museo de Bellas Artes – Santiago de Chile, Google Half Moon Bay SF, Michigan University, Fundación Telefónica – Santiago, New York University, Sala Punto de Encuentro – Montevideo and Galería Ventana244 Gallery – Brooklyn, TSONAMI, Sound Art Festival – Valparaíso among others.

Born and raised in Santiago de Chile, Bate studied fine arts at Universidad de Chile and later obtained her Masters degree at the Interactive telecommunications Program – ITP, at the New York University. She teaches electronics and programming contents for artists and designers at Universidad de Chile and Universidad Católica.
Since 2011 she works at the Contemporary art Museum from Santiago and together with the biologists Kester Bull and Maureen Murúa, she’s part of the directory of Fundación Flores, which aim to foster the links between arts and science.
